Powerwashing Bark River

Now it's the turn of John's rowboat, the Bark River, to get cleaned up and beautified. He's been waiting for warm weather to get at it, and today it's 50 degrees. So one day soon it will go back down to the harbor and we can row together again -- to the cheers and admiration of all who see us, of course.

Ephemeral color

I think I'm the only person on the island who wants the hospital exterior finished in this color. Walking by one day I saw the chief fundraisers and met the construction superintendent and his assistant and told them all I thought it was beautiful, and their response was clearly: Thanks, but no thanks. I think when it's finished it will be a "tasteful beige."

After the bike ride

A gorgeous warm spring day. We rode our bikes wherever we could find level pavement with little traffic: the empty Marketplace parking lot on a Sunday is our favorite, and over past Tim and Shannon's to the Fairgrounds -- not far but by riding in circles and figure eights and back and forth we can put on a few kilometers. Anyway, it feels good.

This'll do ...

... until something better comes along, John said. A gorgeous day, maybe our first taste of real spring, and a great walk down to the pocket beach on the Lab property.

Open at last

The board fence that closed off the shortcut between our house and Shannon and Tim's has been opened by somebody -- probably not the owner. The removed sections were just left lying there, so it looks bad, but I do welcome the convenience. It probably cuts ten minutes off the trip.

Remembering

Today was cold, raw, and windy, so I hunted up these pictures of my favorite oak tree from last spring. Every May its leaves are bright yellow for a few weeks before turning green, and you can see it from all over town as well as from the deck of the ferry as you enter the harbor.
