New trail!

We heard a high school student had built a new trail connecting English Camp and Mitchell Hill -- with the cooperation of the Park Service. Until now all connections between the two areas went up and over Young Hill, and this new trail pretty much follows a contour line. So, very good news. John and I walked it this morning. This picture is looking out from the trail toward the southwest.

Picnic time

Cynthia's, of Course, has opened a kiosk offering delicious picnic food at Lime Kiln Point State Park. We are ecstatic. (Every park should have food available, right?) We went out there on Sunday with Jan and Eric and, even though we didn't see any whales, we had a great time.

Another tree gone

The bigleaf maple next to the barracks at English Camp was cut down on Wednesday, and today Mike Vouri led a Know Your Island Walk out there. I showed it on June 1st before it was cut down, and here is what now remains.

Life!

I've taken pictures of both of these trees after they were cut down, one partially and one totally. But they're both determined to come back.

Great clouds

I love the puffy white clouds we sometimes get, like these the day before yesterday.

Beautiful woods

John has been mowing the woods, one day at a time, since we got home from New York. Tonight I came home about seven o'clock and saw this beautiful sight.

Empty Brickworks

This is the Brickworks where the Friday Harbor Farmers Market is held on Saturdays. This is a Sunday and it looks pretty bleak when empty. But I can imagine nearby bookstores and eating establishments opening up their back doors to this area and it being full of people every day. Almost like what happened to Bryant Park in New York City. It just needs some tables and chairs -- and a lot of people and a place to buy coffee.
