This stairway down to English Camp must have been built for the young, athletic Royal Marines who were stationed here in the 1860s. Or else it was created more recently by the young, athletic National Park Service employees who build and maintain the trails. John says they're "Paul Bunyan steps."
But I love the creative way they use steps and walkways. Some people have so much talent.
